Navigation newsroom masthead · sidebar app · crumb trail · tab register

One rule at the top.

§1 · Resting · masthead
subconscious.ai Vol. I · 26.04 Book a demo
A newspaper masthead. Name on the left, sections in the middle, volume & date on the right, action at the end. No burger, no sticky shrink-on-scroll, no mega-menu.
§2 · Open · overlay (full-viewport)
Fullscreen takeover. Ink ground. Filing-code numerals. Each item carries a Redaction aside — what the page is, not what it's called. The menu is already the argument.

Inside the product.

when nav lives next to a working surface — sidebar, crumbs, and tabs.

§3 · App shell · sidebar (left) + working canvas (right)
Net revenue moved +3.4% at $49 — but it came from existing Pro subscribers absorbing the increase, not from new buyers. Trial-to-paid conversion fell. The price increase is real, the growth is not.
§4 · Crumbs

A breadcrumb is a file path, not a wayfinder. Mono caps, slashed separators, the current node carries the red dot. Never link the current node — there's nowhere to go.

§5 · Tabs

Tabs are a register, not a slider. The active tab carries a 2px red underbar. Counts beside labels are tabular-nums and live. Never a pill-tab control with a moving white background.

§6 · Command palette · the keyboard-first nav

When the operator already knows the destination, navigation collapses to ⌘K. The action-search-bar is a registry component, not a primitive — installed with npx shadcn add, bridged to the contract so it tracks data-theme and data-mode like everything else on this page. Click Search… to open it.
